Parallel w Pilotpriest
This track is a collaboration with the film director, Anthony Scott Burns aka. Pilotpriest and OVERWERK. The song speaks to their "parallel" experience as creatives, who work on all dimensions of art. Parallel is complementary to Burns' upcoming film "Come True", in theatres on March 12, 2021. Burns and OVERWERK have been long-time friends, always meaning to work together, but finally doing so with this epic inaugural track.
Geist
A poignant throwback to OVERWERK's earlier work, Geist hits hard with its down-tempo electro touch. Taking full advantage of your headphones and speakers, Geist captures the "spirit" of the emotionally charged time we live in. While listening, you will experience an imposing beat that fills the stereo space. As the song evolves, it exhales, contrasting the weight with a refreshing choir of voices. Geist, meaning "ghost" or "spirit" points our attention to consciousness and this body (vessel) in which we temporarily reside
Presence
Presence is meant to be the quintessential night driving song. Having created the popular "Night Drive" playlist series, OVERWERK was inspired to make a deep, evolving track, that reflects the meditative nature of driving. The track urges you to "Wake Up" and calls our attention to the present. While the album itself carries this theme of consciousness and existentialism, Presence takes it a step further with a spoken-word message. The track commands our attention, but gently reminds us to correct our course and appreciate each moment.
Pictures
What are memories made of? Can we see a memory, or invent one? This track Pictures dives deeply into the theme of unrequited thought. - Pictures themselves are memories captured and stored, a supplement to our experience, or a reminder of the past. - Inspired by Mark Romanek's film "One Hour Photo", OVERWERK explores these ideas with a lush bed of synths and emotionally charged vocals.
Bridge
Meant as an intermission of sorts, Bridge provides respite from the drive of tracks previous. The song itself is an experiment in sonics and stereo space. Bridge layers together rhythmic sounds and abstract percussion, playing with your ears and challenging expectations. The song hits for a brief moment before subtly evolving into a gentle interlude that flows seamlessly into the following track.
Sense ft. iKell
Through complete happenstance, OVERWERK connected with iKell, an undiscovered Nigerian singer struggling through economical hardship and political strife. Despite the challenges, including the geographical separation, OVERWERK and iKell, managed to collaborate. In his African English dialect, iKell, sings about his experiences. Combined with OVERWERK's powerful music and production, the resulting track is truly without equal.
Resonate
The track Resonate is actually quite personal to OVERWERK's life and story. Having gone through a period of deep psychosis, OVERWERK lost all contact with reality. His recovery included many hospital visits and one of which included an MRI scan. It was during this scan that OVERWERK became inspired by the machinery and magnetic sounds. Once physically and mentally capable to work on music again, he sampled the sounds of this MRI machine and used them to construct the foundation and great majority of what you hear in this song.
Beyond
Beyond, a final track to bid you farewell. A melancholic track that primes your senses for more, but encourages you to let go. OVERWERK created this song to leave you with one clear message: see beyond fear; look at the world with love.
